Al-Ṣaymarī reports that Asad served as a judge for al-Rashīd after Abū Yūsuf. He accompanied the caliph on pilgrimage, travelling alongside him. His kunya was Abū ʿAmr.
ولي القضاء بعد أبي يوسف للرشيد، وحج معه معادلا له، ويكنى أبا عمرو.

In the transmitted account, Abū Ḥanīfa and his companions discuss a legal question. When ʿĀfiya is absent, Abū Ḥanīfa asks them to wait before settling it. If ʿĀfiya agrees, the conclusion is recorded; otherwise it is not. The report presents him as an important participant in collective legal deliberation.
حدثنا العباس بن أحمد الشامي قال ثنا أحمد بن محمد المسكي قال ثنا علي بن محمد النخعي قال ثنا إبراهيم بن مخلد البلخي قال ثنا محمد بن سعيد الخوارزمي قال ثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم قال: كان أصحاب أبي حنيفة يخوضون معه في المسألة! فإذا لم يحضر عافية قال أبو حنيفة: لا ترفعوا المسألة حتى يحضر عافية! فإذا حضر عافية ووافقهم قال أبو حنيفة: أثبتوها! وإن لم يوافقهم قال أبو حنيفة: لا تثبتوها.

Al-Ṣaymarī describes al-Qāsim as a descendant of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd and a scholar accomplished in both jurisprudence and Arabic. Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan cites him in his books, by name or kunya. He succeeded Sharīk ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Nakhaʿī as judge of Kufa.
وهو من ولد عبد الله بن مسعود، وهو مع تقدمه في الفقه وتبحره فيه إمام في العربية مقدم فيها، و[قد] روى عنه محمد بن الحسن في كتبه مصرحا بذكره ومكنيا عنه، وولي قضاء الكوفة بعد شريك بن عبد الله النخعي.
The brackets around [قد] appear in the printed edition. Its footnote gives فيه as the original reading for فيها.
