Among Abū Yūsuf's particular companions was Bishr ibn Ghiyāth al-Marīsī. He had many writings and transmissions from Abū Yūsuf. He was scrupulous and ascetic, but people turned away from him in that period because of his reputation for theological speculation and his engagement in it. Ḥusayn al-Najjār learned his doctrine from him.
