قال: وبهذا الإسناد عن الشيخ أبي عبدالله بن أبي حفص قال: أخبرنا أبي قال: أخبرنا محمد قال: أخبرنا أبو حنيفة قال: حدثنا عبدالله بن أبي حبيبة قال: سمعت أبا الدرداء صاحب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: بينا أنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: «يا أبا الدرداء! من يشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله وجبت له الجنة» قلت له: وإن زنى وإن سرق؟ فسكت عني ثم (سار ساعة) فقال: «من يشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله وجبت له الجنة» قلت له: وإن زنى وإن سرق؟ قال: «وإن زنى وإن سرق، وإن رغم أنف أبي الدرداء».

He said: Through this same chain, from the teacher Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ḥafṣ: my father informed us: Muḥammad informed us: Abū Ḥanīfa informed us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ḥabība related to us: I heard Abū al-Dardāʾ, a Companion of God’s Messenger, say: While I was [with] God’s Messenger, he said: “Abū al-Dardāʾ, whoever bears witness that there is no god but God and that I am God’s Messenger, Paradise becomes due to him.” I asked: “Even if he commits adultery and steals?” He said nothing to me. Then, after walking a while, he said: “Whoever bears witness that there is no god but God and that I am God’s Messenger, Paradise becomes due to him.” I asked: “Even if he commits adultery and steals?” He answered: “Even if he commits adultery and steals, despite Abū al-Dardāʾ’s displeasure.”
