وأما أبو حمزة السكري فإنه كان من الأئمة ومن كبراء التابعين وقال: أنضعني إبراهيم بن الصائغ ألف مسألة لأسأل عنها أبا حنيفة، فقدمت عليه، فسألته، فوجدت الجواب، فحبستها أكثرها ضنا مني بها.

Abū Ḥamza al-Sukkarī was one of the imams and leading Successors. He said: Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ṣāʾigh prepared a thousand questions for me to ask Abū Ḥanīfa. I came to him, asked and found the answers. I withheld most of them out of possessiveness over them.

قال الشيخ أبو عبدالله قال أبو حمزة السكري: سمعت أبا حنيفة يقول: إذا جاءنا عن النبي عليه السلام حديث أخذنا به، وإذا جاءنا عن الصحابة تخيرنا، وإذا جاءنا عن التابعين زاحمناهم.

The teacher Abū ʿAbd Allāh said: Abū Ḥamza al-Sukkarī said: I heard Abū Ḥanīfa say: “When a hadith comes to us from the Prophet, we accept it. When something comes from the Companions, we choose among their views. When it comes from the Successors, we contend with them.”
