Ismāʿīl ibn Mūsā al-Suddī

Al-ʿAbbās ibn Ḥamza al-Naysābūrī related to us: Ismāʿīl ibn Mūsā al-Suddī related to us: al-Ḥasan ibn Ziyād related to us: I heard ʿUbayd Allāh al-Waṣṣāfī say: We were with ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ, and Abū Ḥanīfa was with me. He spoke to a man about faith. Abū Ḥanīfa asked him, ‘Are you a believer?’ He said, ‘I hope so.’ Abū Ḥanīfa said, ‘When Munkar and Nakīr ask you about faith in the grave, will you say, “I hope so”?’ The other man was left bewildered.
