The Messenger of God came and bought a slaughter camel from them for a wasq of dates. When he took it away and disappeared among Medina’s houses, they said to one another: “We have given a slaughter camel to a man we do not know.” An elderly woman among them said: “I have seen the face of a man whom God would never clothe in treachery.” Soon he sent for them and invited them. He ordered dates to be brought and scattered on a leather mat, then said: “Eat.” They ate until satisfied. He then paid them their dates in full. They said: “We have never seen such fulfilment as today.”
A wasq is a traditional measure; no modern conversion is supplied.
