They related to us from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd; he said: related to us: Abū Sulaymān al-Rabīʿ ibn Maḥbūb al-Wāsiṭī; he said: related to us: Ḥassān ibn Ibrāhīm, from Abū Ḥanīfa and Sufyān—may God have mercy on them—who said: If a man forgets what pilgrimage rite he pronounced the talbiya for, and does not know whether he pronounced it for the major pilgrimage or the lesser pilgrimage, he pronounces it for both together. If he had entered consecration for the lesser pilgrimage, he has taken the certain course; if he had entered it for the major pilgrimage, he has taken the certain course; and if he had entered it for both together, he has taken the certain course. If he pronounced the talbiya without intending anything, he may enter consecration for whichever he wishes.

Talbiya is the pilgrim’s invocation; major pilgrimage and lesser pilgrimage render ḥajj and ʿumra.
