ʿAffān ibn Sayyār al-Jurjānī

Qabīṣa ibn al-Faḍl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us. He said: Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm al-Astarābādhī related to us. He said: ʿAffān ibn Sayyār related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Nāfiʿ—God have mercy on them—from Ibn ʿUmar, God be pleased with them both, that he sought a healing incantation for a scorpion sting and underwent cauterisation for facial palsy.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd al-Hamdānī related to us. He said: Dāwūd ibn Yaḥyā related to us. He said: ʿAbbād ibn Yaʿqūb related to us. He said: ʿAffān al-Jurjānī informed us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from ʿAṭāʾ—God have mercy on them—who said: I asked Ibn ʿUmar: “Is jihad an obligation?” He replied: “Yes.” I asked: “Has whoever abandons it disbelieved?” He replied: “No; whoever abandons it has sinned.” I then rose and kissed his head.

Aḥmad ibn Yaʿqūb ibn Ziyād al-Balkhī related to us. He said: ʿAmr ibn ʿUbayd al-Nāqid related to us. He said: ʿAffān ibn Sayyār al-Jurjānī related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm—God have mercy on them—who said: With whichever of God’s names you begin the prayer, it suffices for you.

Qabīṣa ibn al-Faḍl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ṭabarī related to us. He said: Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm related to us. He said: I heard ʿAffān ibn Sayyār say: Abū Ḥanīfa is like a skilled physician who knows the remedy for every disease.
