حدثنا أحمد بن الليث البلخي، قال: حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي خيثمة، قال: حدثنا سليمان بن منصور، قال: سمعت حفص بن غياث، يقول: كنت أقلل الاختلاف إلى سفيان، لأنه كان لا يعجبه اختلافي إلى أبي حنيفة رضي الله عنه، ومجالستي معه، فكان إذا رآني ثبطني عنه، فأقللت الاختلاف إليه.

Aḥmad ibn al-Layth al-Balkhī related to us: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Khaythama related to us: Sulaymān ibn Manṣūr related to us: I heard Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth say: I reduced my visits to Sufyān because he disliked my visiting Abū Ḥanīfa—may God be pleased with him—and sitting with him. Whenever he saw me, he discouraged me from him, so I reduced my visits to him.
