حُدِّثتُ عن عثمان بن أبي شيبة، قال: سمعت أبي، يقول: جلس أبو حنيفة هاهنا في المسجد، فتكلم بما تكلم به، فقال بعضهم: دعوه فما نرى أن كلامه يجاوز الجسر، قال أبي: وما أتت عليه الأيام والليالي إلا قليلاً حتى ضُرب إليه من الآفاق.

It was related to me from ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shayba, who said: I heard my father say: ‘Abū Ḥanīfa sat here in the mosque and said what he said. Some said: Leave him; we do not think his words will go beyond the bridge.’ My father said: ‘Only a few days and nights passed before people travelled to him from distant lands.’
