حدثنا محمد بن القاسم البلخي، قال: حدثنا عباس الدُّوري، قال: سمعت عبد العزيز بن صالح، يقول:سمعت ابن السماك يقص ويقول في قصصه ما يُبكي جميع من حضر المجلس، ويقوم الناس من مجلسه وفيهم من الرِّقة والخوف ما الله به عليم، وكان في آخر مجلسه يدعو لأبي حنيفة ويحث الناس على التأمين، ويرغِّبهم في مجالسته.

Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim al-Balkhī related to us: ʿAbbās al-Dūrī related to us: I heard ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ṣāliḥ say: I heard Ibn al-Sammāk tell stories, saying things that made everyone present weep. People would leave his gathering with a tenderness and fear known fully only to God. At the end of his gathering he would pray for Abū Ḥanīfa, urge people to say amen, and encourage them to sit with him.
