ʿAlī ibn al-Jawz

Ṣāliḥ ibn Saʿīd ibn Mirdās al-Tirmidhī related to us: ʿAlī ibn al-Jawz related to us: Sinān ibn Hārūn al-Burjumī related to me, from Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—from Ḥammād, from Abū Burda ibn Abī Mūsā—may God have mercy on him—who said: A man brought a woman to Abū Masʿūd ʿUqba ibn ʿAmr, saying, ‘This woman stole from me.’ He said, ‘Do you have evidence?’ He said, ‘Ask her.’ ʿUqba said to her, ‘Did you steal, woman? Say no.’ She said, ‘No,’ so ʿUqba let her go.
