Sufyān ibn ʿAbd al-Malik

ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh related to us. He said: My father related to us, from Aḥmad ibn Ḥafṣ, from Sufyān ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, from ʿAbd Allāh, who said: Khārija said: ʿUbayd Allāh spoke to Abū Ḥanīfa, may God be pleased with him, about nabīdh. Abū Ḥanīfa said: “We took it from your father.” He said: “What was it?” He said: “If anything makes you doubtful, dilute it with water.”

Nabīdh is retained as the source’s beverage term; no unstated strength or legal qualification is supplied.

Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn al-Naḍr al-Warrāq al-Naysābūrī related to us: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbda ibn al-Ḥakam related to us: Wahb ibn Zamʿa related to us, from Sufyān ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, from ʿAbd Allāh, who said: I asked him about al-Haytham ibn ʿAdī. He said, ‘He used to sit with Abū Ḥanīfa, but he was associated with those in power.’
