Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyā wrote to me: Ayyūb ibn al-Ḥasan related to us. He said: Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Isḥāq ibn Thābit, from his father, from ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn: He went on the expedition to Tabūk and passed some people who were reeling. He asked: “Who are these?” They said: “They have drunk some of their drink.” He forbade them to drink from gourds, green jars and pitch-coated vessels. When he passed them on his return from the expedition, they complained to him of the indigestion they had suffered, so he permitted them to use these vessels but forbade them to drink anything intoxicating.
The subject of “he went” is not explicitly named in the printed report. No missing transmitter or attribution has been supplied.

Abū Saʿīd Uḥayd ibn ʿUmar and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ related to us. They said: Muṭahhar ibn al-Ḥakam related to us. He said: I heard ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid say: I heard my father say: I asked Abū Ḥanīfa about ʿUmar’s report concerning a missing person. He replied: “This is a tale of Khurāfa.” I was told from Muṭahhar ibn al-Ḥakam, who said: ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, from his father, who said: I asked Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūba about a man who owned two slave women who were sisters. If he had intercourse with one, could he approach the other? He replied: “Al-Ḥasan used to say: He must not approach her as long as the one with whom he had intercourse remains with him.” Al-Ḥusayn said: That is also the position of Abū Ḥanīfa and Sufyān al-Thawrī. Muḥammad ibn Manṣūr said: I asked al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿīd, a grandson of ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid: “Does al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid transmit from Abū Ḥanīfa?” He replied: “He transmitted a great deal from him in the Book of Judges.”
“A tale of Khurāfa” is an expression for a fabulous story; no authenticity ruling is added beyond the attributed words.
