أبو عبد الله (report 113; identity unresolved)

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Kūfī related to us. He said: Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muḥammadī related to us. He said: Yaḥyā ibn Khalaf related to us. He said: Muʿādh ibn Muslim al-Kūfī related to us. He said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh said to me: “I have heard that you give legal opinions.” I said: “I do.” He said: “On what basis do you give them?” He said: “A man who is loyal to you comes to me, and I tell him what you say. A man who is loyal to others comes to me, and I tell him what others say—Abū Ḥanīfa or someone else. A man whose school I do not know comes to me, and I tell him both what you say and what others say.” He said: “Muʿādh! That is what I do.”
